Thank Goodness the Manager was there to fix problems
The hotel is located in the heart of Crystal City, convenient to the airport, metro, shopping, restaurants, and to our reason for staying there—The Birchmere Music Hall. We had a lovely view from our 12th floor room, and could see the Potomac River. The day manager, Ahmed, quickly addressed the problem with our original room, and once he learned we were celebrating our 40th Anniversary, he bought us a glass of champagne. He went out of his way to make our stay as nice as possible. The bed was comfortable and we had a delicious, if expensive, breakfast.
Cons We happened to be staying there while a group of 40-50 national guardsmen were also staying there. You can imagine what it is like trying to sleep next to a room with loud 18 year olds. We had to turn on our “noise machine” full blast to sleep at all. Not the hotel’s fault, but not what we expected for a $335 a night room. Two of the three elevators were inoperable, causing long waits. We specifically requested a room with a view, and got a room facing a construction site (which the manager had to fix). The front desk staff seemed new and unfamiliar with the hotel.
