Very poor recognition of Hilton honors Diamond members.
As a Diamond member I was very disapointed with our stay here.
They do not look after Diamond members at all here.
Despite sending me an email the day before offering me a paid upgrade - and when I checked on the day, upgraded rooms were available for the entirety of our stay - at check in they said they couldn't upgrade us, unless we paid. I can honestly say that as a Diamond member of many years, this is the first time this has ever occured.
The next thing was the breakfast benefit that you get as a diamond is technically for a continental breakfast only and we were told that they enforce this rule and if we wanted hot items then we would have to pay a surcharge.
This is only the second time in decades I've had a hotel enforce this. Penny pinching in the extreme. (The other occasion was at Niagara falls, Canada.)
There isn't an executive lounge here but they don't even offer a welcome drink voucher as most Hilton prorties usually do.
The location of the hotel is good for the city centre and the South bank but there were a number of homeless hanging around the area, including at the hotel entrance which some guests may find unnerving. The free city tram service stop is close by too.
The room we had was very compact and we would not stay here again.
As a reference point, a few weeks later when we were back in Melbourne, we stayed at the Tapestry by Hilton in the city and we were immediately upgraded to a suite without even asking.
Overall, I'd recommend that any Hilton Honors members with Gold or Diamond status simply just avoid this hotel.

Not great
My second stay at this Doubletree and after trying out other Hilton branded properties nearby, definitely my last.
The ground floor is unwelcoming, it’s all open plan so breakfast/restaurant, bar and reception all crammed in one small space, it just doesn’t create a welcoming impression. A screen or a curtain would make such a difference, but it’s just chaotic.
Upgraded from a King Room to a King City View…. Whilst it’s nice to have the outside light I would hardly call peering into a few office blocks a city view! Massive waste of space in the room. Nice bathroom and comfy bed though.
Breakfast staff great but the worst coffee machine going. Good spread, with lots of options and topped up well.
It does seem that of all the Hilton brands in Melbourne, this one really doesn’t do much for Honors Diamond members Bar my room (upgrade?) and standard breakfast I didn’t get a drinks token and was given a bottle of water on check in to carry up, but this wasn’t replenished throughout my 3 day stay.
This is a functional hotel without any wow factor, prob great if you are using it to go back and forwards to the office each day, but not for anyone on a weekend break or on holiday.
I cancelled my stay the following week and moved it to the Curio nearby and so glad I did. Certainly won’t be back to this hotel

Great location and friendly staff
Had a great experience at the Doubletree, the staff a friendly and helpful, the check in and out process was easy and quick and they were helpful when needed. Room was a nice size, clean and the bed was comfortable and allowed a good nights sleep. The walls are a little thin, so could here next door, but tit didn't affect my sleep. Breakfast had plenty of variety and options. The gym is an average standard hotel gym, so ok for a cardio workout. Location is excellent, right in the heart of the city and close to everything you need.

affordable and good choice
The hotel is right in the heart of everything, which makes it super convenient for me. The exhibition venue, supermarket, food court, and merchandise shops are all within walking distance.
There’s also Starbucks, Nando’s, and Walker’s Donuts nearby — and they’re open 24 hours, which is such a blessing!
I was sad that my room was facing to connecting bridge of the other building behind, so no view at all.
The excited one was, knowing that The Yarra River is just 300 meters across the street. Honestly, it’s a really great place to stay. Highly recommended!

First dont make our mistake and book a room without windows! We managed to get one with windows but the first night was claustrophobic. Perfectly situated and close to everything included transport. Breakfast was real good, staff great, gym enough for us, bar pleasant with friendly staff.

Gorgeous location, but the staff really make it
In the heart of Melbourne with historic buildings left and right this beautiful modern hotel stands out. But what makes the real difference is the staff. In particular Kayla-Leigh went extra mile to make sure that we had a room even though we showed up early and personally brought our things to us. She did all of this with patience (we bugged her several times) and a smile She’s professional and personable, and is the kind of staff that any hotel seeks.
