Lovely staff but poor pool usage

Service staff were outstanding. Room was spotless every day and details showed careful thoughts about our family group.

Cons The swimming pool is a bit of a faff to access but more irritating is that it is not actually the hotel's. It is not made clear that this is actually a public swimming pool. We used it everyday between 3 and 7 and no matter when we arrived over the 4day stay, there were lessons in 2/3 of the pool. This left one lane only for those wanting to use the pool. I found this cramped and deeply annoying having paid the premium for a pool. At one session my 3 year old son and I were sharing a lane with 3 adult swimmers, two teenage swimmers (all trying to do lengths) and 2 other sets of parents and child. Meanwhile 6 students had lessons in the rest of the pool.

The uncomfortable room, poor ventilation, and unhelpful staff made this one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had.

Cons Everything else was disappointing. The hotel uses a centralized air conditioning system that kept the room at around 79°F (26°C) the entire time, and there was no way to lower the temperature. The room was unbearably hot, and it actually triggered my asthma. I asked the staff for help several times, but instead of solving the problem, they only provided a very noisy fan that did little to cool the room. They were unwilling or unable to offer any effective solution. To make matters worse, the windows could not be opened, so there was almost no ventilation. The room felt extremely stuffy and uncomfortable throughout my stay. For a hotel under the Holiday Inn brand, this was far below my expectations.
