A Great Choice A Little Further Out
We stayed for four nights at the intercontinental Chennai Mahabalipuram and enjoyed our stay at this new hotel. There were two main reasons for our choice, the first being the 25m swimming pool. This did not disappoint and is a beautifully designed feature of the hotel. This is a great pool to swim laps in, although I would definitely recommend getting in the lengths early as it does - understandably - get busy later on. We were very grateful for the large number of sunbeds, all with umbrellas or canopies for essential shade. Our second reason for choosing this hotel was that we could pay for access to a Club Lounge. As the hotel is still developing, the Club Lounge is currently running in a temporary setting, however the friendly and professional service provided by Mr Ramesh (Restaurant Manager) was exceptional and a real highlight of our stay. As the Club Lounge is still being worked on, it may be worth checking on how food/drink is currently being offered - during our stay there was no buffet/canapes - rather a choice from a menu. The drinks on offer were generous and we enjoyed the wine that was available during cocktail hour. As with many lounges that we have used and enjoyed, the Club Lounge does allow children. However, unfortunately, the sanctuary of the lounge was lost on one occasion; we are grateful to the management team for listening and understanding our disappointment and responding to this as best they could. Finally, we were delighted with the offer at breakfast time - the choice is extensive and the service by the team was superb and welcoming. If travelling into Mahabalipurum is not an issue (we used Uber for the 20min journey) , then we would certainly say this is a hotel worth considering.
