Quiet moments above the city

The contrast between the busy streets and the calm inside the hotel is what I remember most. Being higher up, we had an open view over the city, and it created a sense of space that we kept coming back to throughout the stay. The club lounge became one of our favorite spots. It’s easy to drop by during the day for coffee or something refreshing, and in the evening it feels more intimate with light bites. I appreciated the option to have breakfast there instead of the main restaurant – even though the selection is smaller, it feels more curated, with touches like good cheeses and smoked salmon, and a noticeably quieter atmosphere.

Practical and well-organized city stay

From a planning perspective, the hotel is very efficient. Its position in central George Town allows easy access to key heritage streets without needing transport. The internal connection to Komtar proved highly convenient – it’s not just about shops and cafés, but also indoor activities. The kids really enjoyed the technical museum there, which helped structure part of the day. Having free parking in this area is also a clear advantage. The room design is modern and functional, with a layout that works well for a short family stay. Soundproofing stood out – the room remained completely quiet despite the busy surroundings. The gym is spacious and well-equipped, with natural light that makes it more comfortable to use. Service quality is consistent with Shangri-La standards, though delivered in a more relaxed and informal way.

Disappointed

Booked a club room as advertised cocktails and canapes from 4pm til 7pm. It was last 2 days of our holiday so thought this would be a lovely treat! Disappointed as not as advertised, yes they had lovely canapes, and free flowing beer and wine..spirits were smirnoff vodka, spicy rum, cheap whiskey, brandy and we were told we could make our own cocktails? We did complain at club lounge and at reception but had no response. False advertising! So overall, nice rooms, quite friendly, well positioned hotel but wouldn't go back.

Great hotel.

We totally enjoyed our stay in this Hotel. Our room was perfect, everything was working from the smart tv, hot shower, wifi and all other amenities in the room were simply great. I would like to commend Jessica the housekeeper on the 14th floor for being so helpful and friendly. The breakfast were great! Subaiah, the Jen Cafe staff were so welcoming to us and made sure that we got what we want to eat.

Great hotel.

Really nice hotel with warm friendly staff. Breakfast is amazing for both variety and taste. Special mention to Subbiah, friendly and entertaining went beyond to make us feel comfortable. Bar bit expensive but hey that's hotels the world over.
