Excellent location, beautiful space, nice pool and gym facilities.
Cons Nothing!
Moose guest room soft fittings were tired, so we asked to transfer to The Canoe, which was good.
The Moose is basically a nicely designed hotel, close to the centre of Banff. Banff is very busy and noisy in July, so we asked for a quiet room. That was provided, with a room at the back of the hotel, with a small balcony and good mountain views. It was a suite with good space and a comfortable bed and also with a small kitchen area that was useful. The hotel staff were great, all very welcoming and helpful. Parking was great and anyway the hotel provides a free shuttle bus ticket. We transferred to another hotel for the last night in Banff (see below) and the staff handled that very well.
Cons The Moose hotel is (??) 10 years or so old. The public spaces have been renovated, but the rooms are tired. The sofa/settee, cushions and the rug in the sitting room area of the suite were stained and past their replacement date, which made the overall comfort of that room poor and led to our poor overall rating for comfort. We felt we could have had a better room experience elsewhere in Banff for the same money, hence our poor value rating. We used the Moose restaurant only once, for dinner. The server we had was fairly offhand, which we found unusual (even unique) for our overall Canadian restaurants experience. We were fairly busy for the first few days with booked activities, but we asked to be transferred to another newer hotel in the same group (The Canoe) for the last night. This replacement hotel (The Canoe) is a couple of years old and therefore with relatively new fittings and little wear and tear yet, so very clean and comfortable. It is further out of town, but that's not a problem, as it also provided free shuttle bus tickets. In The Canoe, for around the same price, we had a top floor balcony room, with a smaller area than the suite we had in the Moose, but with a large balcony with great views. Again, very helpful staff and a great last night experience. In retrospect, we wished we had asked to transfer sooner.
