A honeymoon stay ruined by a bed bug and an inadequate hotel response

Cons I’m writing this because our honeymoon stay at Nagoya Marriott Associa Hotel turned into one of the most stressful travel experiences we have ever had. While lying in bed, I saw a bug crawling on the bedding. I immediately recorded it, asked my husband to shine a flashlight on it so the footage was clear, and called the front desk. A staff member came up with an exterminator who used a clear plastic bag to remove it, and confirmed to hotel staff that it was a bed bug. The hotel staff then said exterminator would decontaminate the area to indicate that spraying was all they would do in response to a confirmed bed bug sighting. We told staff immediately that we could not remain in that room they said they understood and left. The exterminator sprayed only a small area and left, while we were left standing in the hallway trying to figure out what to do. We went to the front desk and requested urgent laundry service and treatment for our bags, clothing, and shoes. We were told laundry service had ended for the day and that the best option was a some kind of spray treatment or rubbing alcohol, with a warning that treatment could discolor our belongings. We chose alcohol. When we were moving to another room, a staff member offered to take our belongings to spray them. We declined because we wanted to control how our clothes would be treated and avoid any damage. Staff eventually brought us a bottle of rubbing alcohol, which we were asked to return at checkout. We sprayed every item of clothing that had been out, everything we were wearing, our bags, and our shoes. We sealed worn clothing in compression bags, placed sprayed clothing in tightly sealed plastic laundry bags, and kept our backpacks and shoes in the bathroom after treatment. Thankfully, most of our luggage had already been sent ahead to our next hotel, so only the essentials were in the room. But that does not change how upsetting this was.
