Radisson Blu Hotel, Durban Umhlanga

The location is absolutely fantastic, no need for a car to move around town. Loved it Also loved the hotel itself 😊 They cancelled our booking though without confirming with us which was very disappointing but they sorted it. We asked for a complementary coffee, breakfast & 2hrs late checkout which wasn’t given esp after the stressful event

Disappointing, not worth the money

Cons I stayed for one night and, given the price (over R2,000) and the hotel's high rating, I expected a much higher standard of service than I received. One issue was the hotel's location within the mall complex means Uber does not allow passengers to place the pickup/drop-off pin directly outside the hotel, it instead moves it much further up and on the other sider of the road. This caused difficulties both arriving and departing. Arriving, I had not realised Uber had changed my drop-off and my driver did not know where the hotel was. We ended up driving down the ramp into the mall parking before realising the error and then reversing back up the mall ramp which was extremely stressful. As this appears to be a known issue, I would have expected clearer instructions to be provided to guests in advance, especially when they were proactive enough to email me asking about upgrades. The most disappointing aspect was the lack of assistance at checkout. When I explained that I had already experienced problems with Uber drivers finding the hotel and asked for help arranging my pickup, the response felt dismissive. The receptionist simply told me to book the Uber and message the driver myself, no further assistance or queries into my stay, overall making me feel like an inconvenience. As a solo traveller carrying heavy luggage (a 20kg rucksack and additional bags), I was also surprised that none of the porters standing nearby offered assistance or checked whether I was able to find my Uber without difficulty. While I was not expecting staff to arrange my transport for me, I did expect a more helpful and welcoming level of service. The room was comfortable, but noise from the adjoining room was clearly audible through the connecting door. The breakfast and facilities were acceptable, but not exceptional, and I've experienced better value at cheaper hotels.
