A Royal Experience at Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor 🇪🇬✨
Staying at Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor was a truly unforgettable experience. This historic hotel combines timeless elegance, luxury, and the charm of old-world Egypt. The beautiful architecture, classic interiors, and peaceful gardens create a unique atmosphere.
The location is perfect, right in the heart of Luxor, close to the Nile and the amazing ancient temples and monuments. The rooms were comfortable, beautifully designed, and full of character. The staff provided excellent service with genuine Egyptian hospitality.
The garden area is stunning, and enjoying a relaxing moment there feels like traveling back in time. A perfect choice for anyone visiting Luxor and looking for a luxurious stay surrounded by history.
Tip for future travelers:
Choose a room with a view of the gardens or Nile, and take time to enjoy the hotel’s historic atmosphere — it is part of the Luxor experience.

Incredible view, but performance seemed to be not meeting my expectations
Visited in in April 2026 to have a drink and enquire about booking. The location and view of the Nile and Luxor’s temples are truly 5-star — you feel the history. However, my personal impression from reception was disappointing in my opinion. Staff I spoke with seemed unresponsive satisfactorily to basic questions, and I didn’t feel welcome. Based on that brief experience, I chose not to book. I booked a Nile cruise instead and found the staff more attentive and proactive. This location deserves service that makes guests feel valued.

Great food in an iconic location
We had dinner in La Corniche restaurant, which has been the main restaurant for 134 years.
Superb service and great food, their signature dessert Opera Trio is a must.
Very reasonable cost, worth making the effort even if you are not staying at the hotel

Staying in History
Historic decayed elegance are the words that come to mind. The location of the hotel walking distance to Luxor temple and close to Karnak is a major plus. Of the grand hotels in Egypt I would say that this one is in need of an upgrade especially with the four seasons slated to open next door soon. The staff seemed helpful but a little disengaged overall, without going out of their way as was typical on the rest of our trip. I guess it’s hard to review this hotel after coming from a really well run Cataract hotel in Aswan, but there is great potential here.
I wish they would take more advantage of the potential views they have over Luxor Temple, better priced cocktails in the bar (why is a signature cocktail $40?), and elevating their pool deck food offerings.

Extremely overpriced and rude
Beautiful, historic building but not maintained at all!
Cons No maintenance, rude staff, as women we felt uncomfortable at times. Male staff was very intrusive and harrassing. The young woman at the reception was extremely rude and unfriendly. Two male staff were harassing us on the street and running after us. The food was not good. We would absolutely not recommend staying there. For female travelers we would overall not recommend Egypt.
